Bathroom and kitchen drains  All drains have a similar construction. At the bottom of the drainpipe is a curved section of pipe called a trap. Under sinks this trap is shaped like an "U," while most bathtubs have a slightly different shaped trap called a "P" trap, since it's shaped like the letter "P." The curves in the trap are there to "trap" some water in the drain line, and prevent sewer gases from coming up the pipe and smelling up the house. Over time, however, the traps sometimes get blocked with things like cooking grease or food particles (in kitchen drains) or hair and soap scum (in tubs and bathroom sinks). Call us for help before the drain gets fully clogged. There are many preventative measures available: drain covers come in many styles and are useful at keeping larger food particles and hair from entering the drain; use Bio Clean on a regular basis to reduce sludge in the drain pipe; never pour grease directly down the drain-let it cool and dispose of in the household garbage.
Perimeter drains Every year, home owners  find they have issues with their drainage. Tree roots, grease, mud deposits, misaligned/broken tiles, and natural earth movement all contribute to the deterioration of drainage systems.Sometimes the best answer is replacement or repair of the line. Other times a simple cleaning is all that is needed. We flush perimeter drains or repair them if needed to assure you of a dry basement throughout the rainy season. Regular maintenance on your drainage system can save you money!

Whether your drain blockage is in the home, or outdoors call Marshall Plumbing and we'll make it a thing of the past!

Sump Pump ... a small pump installed in the lowest part of a basement or crawlspace. Its job is to help keep the area under the building dry and to prevent it from flooding. Usually, sump pumps are installed in specially constructed sump pits. Water flows into the sump pit through drains or by natural water migration through the soil. The sump pump's job is to pump the water out of the pit and away from the building so the basement or crawlspace stays dry. We can install new pump or inspect your non-functioning pump.

Garburators  We repair or replace garburators. Garburators are installed under the kitchen sink and is attached to the drain. With a stream of cold water from the kitchen tap, the food waste disposer is turned on with the touch of a button and  grinds food waste to fine particles that are flushed out of the grind chamber and into the septic or sewage system. The Insinkerator Bager 5  is the most popular customer choice.

Disposals clog because over time the waste line or trap get coated and eventually obstructed with food waste. Not all food waste is created equal. Here is a quick rundown on the most common causes of garburator clogs. NOTE: Many municipalities across Canada have banned garburators over the years, especially in the oldest subdivisions where homes have combined water and waste sewers.
