Heating
We provide full service for all sorts of home and business heating
systems. Whether you have electric, gas, or oil heat in your home,
we've got the experience dealing with the particulars of heating
a home on Vancouver Island. Marshall Plumbing Ltd also specializes
in servicing and repairing boilers.
Gas
Gas is one of the most popular heating options on Vancouver Island.
As well as being clean and efficient, gas is also extremely versatile
and can be used to power a wide range of central heating boilers,
as well as other gas heating appliances around your home.
In the kitchen most cooks prefer gas because it's instantly controllable.
Everyone warms to a real fire, but not everyone is thrilled about
carrying in the wood or raking out the ashes, so gas fireplaces
are the answer. Gas appliances and fireplaces should be regularly
inspected for safety, and be anchored to the wall in case of earthquake.
Many people in Nanaimo and Parksville are extending their summers
by using patio heaters. They are perfect for prolonging a summer
evening so your guests can stay longer to enjoy your barbecue
skills. We'll also service the gas heating system for your swimming
pool.
At Marshall Plumbing, we have the expertise to install and service
gas appliances in Nanaimo and Parksville. Our gas technician has
the highest level British Columbia Gas Services Certification
possible. We're proud of our ability to handle any gas emergency,
installation or service issue you may encounter - safely and promptly.

In Floor Heating
At Marshall Plumbing Ltd, we specialize in installing and maintaining
hydronic radiant floor heating systems. Did you know that more
than 50% of all new construction in Europe is heated using underfloor
radiant heat? A very large majority of residential and commercial
buildings use radiant heat, whether it is underfloor or not. In
cold countries like Norway or Sweden, it is the most popular heating
method. It is now becoming well known in Nanaimo, Ladysmith, Parksville
and all over Vancouver Island.

Radiant heat is by far the most comfortable form of heat, since
(like the rays of the sun) it heats objects rather than air. The
heat radiates to your body and you feel warm and comfortable.
Unlike conventional heat, floors (rather than ceilings) are the
warmest part of the room, so that you have warm feet and a cool
head.
Because it is hydronic (using a plumbing system with warm water
flowing through pipes under the floor) and utilizes low temperature
water (32-55°C), radiant heat is more efficient and will save
20-40% of the cost of heating with conventional methods. In addition,
because it warms your body rather than the air, you feel comfortable
at a lower temperature and you can turn your thermostat down.
Radiant heat systems operate without any noise or sound. In addition,
there are no drafts or air movement so dust and germs aren't spread
around.
Radiant heat is much more attractive than conventional heat.
There is no need to concern yourself with how close furniture
is to a heat source. The heat is out of the way, providing maximum
freedom in designing a home or commercial building. It has particular
application in areas with limited wall space or excessive heat
loss, such as solariums, kitchens, entry ways or baths.
Hydronic radiant heating systems use a boiler to heat up hot
water and a pump to circulate the hot water in plastic pipes installed
in a concrete slab. The pipes, embedded in the floor, carry heated
water that conduct warmth through the mass of the floor and then
radiates energy to your the room. Separate radiant heat zones
are controlled by one thermostat and served by a manifold which
distributes the flow of warm water to the individual circuits
of tubing within each zone.
Hydronic underfloor heating systems are closed loop: the same
fluid is heated, circulated, and then reheated. Hydronic heating
systems are also used with antifreeze solutions in ice and snow
melt systems for walkways, parking lots and streets. They are
more commonly used in commercial and whole house radiant floor
heat projects, while electric radiant heat systems are more commonly
used in smaller "spot warming" applications.
Many homes on Vancouver Island use forced air heating systems.
Forced hot air blows dust around the house, carrying germs, "fried
dust", and pollutants into the home, which radiant floor
heating does not. On the contrary, warm floors enable you to reduce
greatly the dust mite population. Keep those chilly, damp Nanaimo
winters at bay! Call Marshall Plumbing Ltd today.
